Georgia Corrections Release Paths
The Georgia Department of Corrections operates the statewide state-prison system. A person sentenced for a Cobb felony may leave the Cobb County Adult Detention Center through transfer to GDC. That local event is not release to the community. Cobb's jail record may end with a state transfer, while GDC becomes responsible for the state sentence and the later prison release record.
A GDC offender can leave prison on parole, at sentence expiration or maximum release, after a court-ordered sentence reduction, or through another authorized state action. Parole means release from prison under conditions set through the state parole process. Max-out means the custodial sentence reached its end. Neither should be confused with a Tentative Parole Month, which is a review month and not a final release decision.
After release, felony parole or probation supervision is handled by the Georgia Department of Community Supervision. - Compare the identity, current location or status, offense, case, and sentence fields in the result.
- Keep Maximum Release Date separate from the parole board's Tentative Parole Month.
- Use the parole board TPM lookup or parolee database when the record points to parole review or release.
- Compare the state record with the Cobb sentencing court if Cobb was the county of conviction.
- Request written verification from GDC Inmate Records and Information before treating the web data as complete.
GDC warns that its information may not be accurate or complete and directs users to written correspondence for verification. That instruction is part of the release workflow. It is especially important when a former state prisoner no longer appears in a tool focused on current facility custody, when sentence dates conflict, or when the question concerns actual discharge rather than a projected date.

Ask for the current status, release or discharge date, Maximum Release Date, parole release date if applicable, facility history, and any public supervision indicator needed to understand the state-prison outcome. If the question concerns the parole decision or TPM, use the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. If it concerns reporting after release, use DCS and the assigned field office.
GDC photographs, when available, display automatically in search results according to the agency. A photo does not establish that the rest of the record is current, and a past Cobb booking photo belongs to a different local record system. Identity should be matched through IDs, descriptors, court details, and official confirmation.
Georgia Corrections Release Date Fields
Georgia state-prison timing uses several terms that answer different questions. Maximum Release Date is tied to the court-ordered sentence and represents the longest time the offender can spend in prison. GDC's handbook says it does not change unless sentence service is interrupted, and the person serves the sentence unless parole or a court-ordered reduction changes the prison stay. It is not the same as a promise that release will happen earlier.

The parole board can postpone or cancel a TPM because of misconduct or unmet conditions. Georgia's Performance Incentive Credit program may reduce TPM or MRD for eligible offenders who complete approved programs, work assignments, and good conduct requirements. GDC says up to 12 points can potentially produce one to 12 months of reduction, but it also lists excluded sentence categories. No one should apply PIC as a universal formula.
Serious violent felony law can restrict parole, earned-time reductions, work release, and other sentence-reducing measures for covered offenses. Georgia's supported framework is offense and sentence specific. It is not a universal 85-percent rule. The court sentence, GDC record, parole eligibility, PIC eligibility, mandatory-service law, and actual state decision must be read together.

Georgia Corrections Offender Search

Search fields can narrow identity, but common names and incomplete inputs remain a risk. Compare GDC ID, physical details, case information, and court data. If no current result appears, contact the state record custodian rather than substituting Cobb's current jail roster for a state discharge archive.

Georgia Corrections and Cobb Jail History
The facility-history angle applies differently to GDC because GDC represents a statewide correctional system, not one Cobb prison building. Cobb's Adult Detention Center history includes Building A completed in 1987, Building B in 1997, and C Tower in 2010. Those local jail buildings have a published combined bed capacity of 3,077. None is a GDC state prison, and none of those figures should be assigned to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
The connection is procedural. A person sentenced for a felony in Cobb Superior Court may move from the Cobb Jail Complex to a GDC facility elsewhere in Georgia. The Cobb release record may say transferred, while the GDC record starts the state custody phase. A later state-prison release belongs to GDC and the parole or supervision agencies, even if Cobb remains the conviction county or later residence.
Names in records should be read by time and agency. Cobb County Jail, Adult Detention Center, Jail Complex, and tower references point to local Sheriff custody. GDC, a named state prison, a GDC ID, MRD, or TPM points to the state sentence system. Keeping that history straight prevents a local jail transfer from being misreported as freedom and prevents a GDC discharge from being sought only in a Cobb roster.
Georgia Corrections Release or ICE Transfer
An immigration-custody question must be based on an actual transfer or detainer indication. ICE's Online Detainee Locator System covers people currently in ICE custody or in CBP custody for more than 48 hours. It is not a GDC historical discharge database. Search ICE only when a GDC record, Cobb record, court document, family report, or agency notice supports that destination.
Cobb's 287(g) history belongs to the local jail context. Local reports state that Sheriff Craig Owens ended Cobb participation in January 2021. That fact does not define GDC's statewide release process, and it does not prove current immigration custody. Older Cobb files may use the term, but modern verification still requires the state or county release record and ICE's current locator where appropriate.
If a person leaves GDC for another authority, ask the state record custodian for the transfer or release status that can be disclosed. Then check the receiving system. A missing ICE result does not change a documented state transfer, just as a missing GDC current-custody result does not itself prove discharge. Agency records should be joined in the order custody moved.
Post-release supervision is also not ICE custody. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles makes parole decisions, while DCS supervises parolees and felony probationers.
